Landscaping at the Baptist Children's Home

The Brentwood Community 4-H Club in Williamson County received a 4-H S.O.S. mini-grant to help beautify a local children's home. They prepared the site; planted a pink dogwood tree, bushes, bulbs, and flowers; mulched; and added a "gardening angel" to the site near a bridge in the front yard. The area is now "an ideal spot for picture taking and/or relaxing." The youth learned about planting (including "dead heading" and breaking up roots before planting) and teamwork.

Note: The captions below are courtesy of Corey Smith, the youth coordinator for the project.

We ready the site for planting.

Everyone enjoyed putting the rocks around the garden's edge.

Our neighbors came to the rescue
and delivered the tree and supplies

Patrick was so helpful with the project.

Mulch time!

We all worked so well together planting the bulbs and flowers.

Everyone needs a "gardening" angel.

We took turns watering (a little for the tree, a little for me).

We did it!

We combined reflection and celebration activities.

A good time was had by all.
