Plant Science Project

How can you combine plant science and field crops knowledge with service to the community? Here are some ideas.

  • help teach Ag in the Classroom
  • host a farm safety day
  • have a Food and Fiber Fair
  • sponsor a farm tour
  • help conduct research on crops
  • assist senior citizens who want to take a soil sample for testing
  • hold a farm day for preschoolers
  • sponsor a drive to collect cotton blankets, coats, mittens, etc. for the homeless or for a women's shelter
  • donate produce to the food bank
  • sell dried corn stalks for decorations and use the money to buy clothes, food, or toys for needy children
  • use dried corn stalks to decorate your town for autumn
  • make yogurt covered soybeans and donate to a women's center for the nutritional benefits
  • for the library, create a display about the history of tobacco in Tennessee or the impact of tobacco production on the Tennessee economy
  • put up educational displays at a Farm Education Day or other community event
  • make or collect cotton caps for kids with cancer
  • write about the many uses of soybeans and perform it for younger kids
