Project
Unlimited Support
is a grassroots effort to show support for America's armed
forces. Many troops have to leave the country in a hurry
and leave behind many non-mission essential items. Project
U.S. collects items for both soldiers/airmen and
for their families. Locally, the project supports families
at Fort Campbell. Military personnel at Charleston Air Force
Base coordinate the shipment of donated items to members
of the armed forces stationed overseas.
At
2003 State 4-H Congress, the focus was on the troops who
are stationed in the Middle East. 4-H'ers, Extension staff,
and volunteer leaders showed their support for these dedicated
men and women by bringing toiletry items such as shampoo,
soap, mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and
antibacterial hand sanitizer (the water-less kind). They
can also brought international phone cards and cards (without
envelopes) addressed to "Dear Military Member."
2003
Congress delegates and leaders collected over 16,000
items for our troops! Lt. Col. (Ret.) Randy Harmon,
the Project U.S. coordinator, spoke to the entire delegation
on Tuesday to express his appreciation for such a fantastic
donation.
Thanks
to everyone who worked to make this project a success! A
special thanks goes out to the volunteer leaders and Extension
staff who helped to box and transport the MANY boxes on
Monday morning!
