2001 Teen
Adventure Weekend

On June 29, 120 teens participated in service learning projects at Teen Adventure Weekend. These projects were selected and designed by the statewide All Star High Council. They wanted projects that would appeal to their peers' interests, as well as things that would be meaningful. Both projects were funded in part by a
4-H S.O.S. mini-grant.

Trail Stomping
Half the teens went "trail stomping" on the Cumberland Trail. Although the hike was an adventure in itself--up steep hills and through the wilderness--the 4-H'ers were truly performing a service. They were "stomping" down the trail to make it easier for people who come later to experience the beauty of this historical area.

TNCEP/Literacy

The other half of the group worked with the Tennessee Nutrition Consumer Education Program (TNCEP) to make lesson plan bags. The bags are full of books, activities, and snacks to teach kids about fruit. Because they include books, they're also great literacy tools. The teens can teach lessons with their bags before giving them to the TNCEP agents in their counties to use in their programming.
