The State Alumni Meeting/Volunteer Forum was a great success, with
168 participants, but the REAL success comes in what happens as
a result of those 168 participants! Workshops and tracks at the
forum were designed to prepare teens and adults to work with six
or more young people for six or more impactful hours. Encourage
your participants to use what they experienced at the fun event.
We are in the process of creating an on-line record of the forum
teens/adults who "do" six-for-six. Encourage your delegates
to start neighborhood, community, project or school groups so they
can make the "Six-for-Six Hall of Fame."

ACADEMIC
CONFERENCE AND ELECTRIC CAMP WEB SITES UPDATED
The Tennessee Junior High 4-H Academic Conference and 4-H Electric
Camp pages have been updated and reflect the information for 2003.
The URL for the Academic Conference site is www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/acadconf/.
The Electric Camp site may be accessed through www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/elecamp/.
These sites promote the events and contain information of interest
for potential participants... including who may attend, program
highlights, and what to bring. There are links from the sites to
the registration and application forms as well as the Activity and
Event Acceptance Form (F600A). Both sites also have guestbooks for
4-H'ers to use in asking questions, leaving messages for other delegates
or reading what others have to say about the events.
We hope these sites will be useful to you in promoting Academic
Conference and Electric Camp with your 4-H members. You should be
receiving registration materials from your district office in the
coming months.

CHANGE IN HIGH COUNCIL
AGENDA
There was an error in last week's article about the upcoming 4-H
All Stars High Council meeting. This year's agenda will not
include district slide shows. Instead, each district will give a
brief oral report during the business meeting. The slide shows will
still be an integral part of the All Star Assembly at Roundup, since
this is an ideal time for the district groups to share their service
and leadership activities and encourage other 4-H'ers to become
involved.
The All Star newsletter will be coming out in a few days with further
details about the High Council agenda and plans for the upcoming
year.

COUNTY DAIRY PROMOTION
CONTEST
If you have not already received it, you should be receiving within
the next few days information from Pat Wallin and Eric McClain on
the 2003 County Dairy Promotion Contest. This event provides opportunities
for 4-H members to build communication skills, citizenship and leadership
skills, as well as skills in consumer science, health and fitness,
dairy foods, and food and nutrition. If you wish to utilize this
opportunity in your 4-H program, be sure to send your information
sheet with the member's name and the request for materials by April
4. Remember: $200 will be added to the local county 4-H funds
of the three overall state winners in each division. If
you do not receive the information about the event, please let me
know. The information can also be found on our web site at www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/dairypromo/.
We are also looking for 5-6 teen leaders who are not serving as
June Dairy Month chairpersons to serve in leadership roles for the
chairperson training sessions at the June Dairy Month Kick Off luncheon
on June 5, 2003. We would especially like to have teens who have
been winners in the promotion event in the past or who are active
in the dairy or dairy foods projects. If you would like to nominate
someone, please send me a note with the name, address and brief
statement about why you think they would be good in this leadership
role.

The Cumberland District has submitted more 4-H achievement record
books for spring judging than any other district in the state. There
were 25 citizenship and leadership books submitted from 12 counties.
Pickett County was the top county with seven entries. We hope to
have the books judged and the state finalists announced by March
3.

GET READY FOR ELECTRIC
CAMP
The 2003 4-H Electric Camp is scheduled for June 24-27. Electric
Camp is a fun-filled, rewarding adventure in electricity held at
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The camp will feature learning
centers staffed by electric utility professionals. Each learning
center will use hands-on activities that allow the 4-H members to
learn by doing. Previous electric camps have received rave reviews
from the 4-H members, leaders and Extension staff that have attended.
Electric Camp is for boys and girls enrolled in 4-H who are in
the 6th and 7th grades as of January 1, 2003. (8th graders
are NOT eligible to participate in Electric Camp.) Members
do not have to be enrolled in the electric project to attend the
camp.
The cost for the 2003 4-H Electric Camp will be $110. This fee
includes the cost of meals, lodging, field trips, insurance, programs,
etc. Transportation fees are covered by members of the Tennessee
Electric Cooperative Association.
Each district is eligible to send two adult volunteer leaders to
the camp. Leaders should have an interest in the electric project.
At least six camp assistants will also be selected to attend Electric
Camp in a leadership capacity. Camp assistants must be senior 4-H
members.
You will receive registration material from your district office
in the near future. Additional information is available on the web
site at www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/elecamp/.
If you need copies of the tri-fold color brochure promoting the
camp, please contact Mike Buschermohle
at (865)974-6343.

LINCOLN TOPS THE LIST!
Congratulations to Lincoln, Humphreys and Henderson counties for
it's stellar support of the Alumni/Volunteer Forum, February 6-7
at Paris Landing State Park and to Central District for bringing
the most adults and teens for hands-on training. Each number represents
a teen or adult who is better prepared to work with young folks
back home! That's what matters in our business of youth development.

NEW REFLECTION
TOOL SHARED AT LEADER FORUM
At Volunteer Leader Forum last weekend, 4-H S.O.S. shared a great
new tool for service learning reflection: the Service-Learning
- Student's Guide & Journal. Robert Schoenfield, the creator
of the guide, sent the following description of the book:
"The Service Learning - Student's Guide & Journal
is a new booklet that will help every high school and middle school
student in the United States organize their Service-Learning project
and improve their thinking and writing skills.
"The Student's Guide & Journal will aid students
in their pursuit of scholastic achievement while guiding and inspiring
them to take their service to their community and the nation to
a higher level of achievement. The Service-Learning - Student's
Guide & Journal is a useful resource for any Service-Learning
program such as: The Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning, The
Martin Luther King Day of Service, environmental programs, tutoring
and mentoring projects, helping the homeless and the hungry."
If you would like more information on this terrific reflection
tool or how to order copies for your county, contact the state 4-H
office at LMantoo1@utk.edu
or visit www.ServiceLearn.com.
