PUTNAM COUNTY LAND TEAM HOME FROM OKLAHOMA

The Putnam County 4-H land judging team represented Tennessee by recently competing in the National Land and Homesite Judging Contests in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The team placed 5th in the nation in land judging and was the Southeast Region champions. The team also competed in the homesite evaluation contest finishing 4th. Team members included Seth McDonald, Kyle McDonald, Isaac Haney and Whitney Tayes. Seth was 12th in land and 7th in homesite, and Isaac was 15th overall in land and 11th in homesite individual scoring. The team was trained by Carlie McCowan, a soil scientist with NRCS. The team was accompanied by their 4-H agent, Melissa Henry. Over 100 4-H and FFA teams from 35 states competed in the contest. While in Oklahoma City, the team toured the state capital, the Oklahoma City Memorial site, Stockyards City and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Around $2,000 was raised for the trip through sponsorship from county and local businesses.
