NATIONAL 4-H WEEK KIT NOW AVAILABLE
National 4-H Week is October 5-11, 2003. The 2003 National 4-H
Week kit is now available both as a compact disc and online so that
4-H staff, volunteers and members can prepare their public relations
materials for the week-long celebration of 4-H. The kit was mailed
as a compact disc to all county and state 4-H offices in late July.
The kit also is available online at 4hweekkit.fourhcouncil.edu.
The kit contains resources for planning events, increasing publicity
and working with media. It includes graphics, songs, photos, brochures,
bookmarks, PSAs, newspaper ads and more. Many of the items on the
kit are customizable, so they can be tailored to your local program.
The kit is intended for use by anyone promoting National 4-H Week.
The kit was produced by the National 4-H Council marketing team
in collaboration with the National Association of Extension 4-H
Agents (NAE4-HA) Public Relations and Information Committee’s
2003 National 4-H Week Kit Task Force. For more information about
the National 4-H Week Kit, visit the Web site

TENNESSEE DOMINATES EDUCATIONAL EVENTS
AT SOUTHERN REGIONAL HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Once again the Tennessee 4-H horse program was extremely successful
at the 2003 Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships held in Perry,
Georgia. Tennessee 4-H horse project members participating in horse
judging, speech and individual demonstrations were all crowned champions
at the Southern Regionals. The event is held annually at a location
in the Southeast.
The Sumner County 4-H horse judging team was named champion over
17 other horse judging teams. Team members were Sarah McKee, Ginny
Gregory, Renee Garrett and Kelly Garrett. The team was coached by
local Extension agent Steve McNeil. As a team, Sumner County was
third in reasons, second in placing and first overall. Kelly Garrett
was the overall high individual in the contest with teammates Renee
Garrett and Ginny Gregory placing ninth and tenth respectively in
overall individuals.
Wilson County 4-H horse judging team placed sixth at the Southern
Regionals with team members Beth Barnes, Rachel Pulley, Casey West
and Allison Erkman. They were coached by volunteer leader Terry
Young. The team was sixth in reasons and fourth in placings. Allison
Erkman was the sixth high individual in the contest.
Jordan Rippy, Sumner County 4-H member and state winner in the
individual demonstration contest, won the championship in the individual
demonstration competition at the Southern Regional event. Whitney
Young, Wilson County 4-H member, placed fifth in the individual
demonstration. Additionally, Leann Little of Fentress County was
named champion in the public speaking contest and Molly Smith of
McNairy County placed eighth in public speaking. Amber Burkey and

at the Southern Regionals. The team was coached by Kim Snoderly,
Blount County 4-H volunteer. Robertson County 4-H members also competed
in the hippology contest and they placed sixth. The team was coached
