ALTERNATE VERSIONS OF PROJECT SELECTION GUIDE AVAILABLE
At the request of some agents, the state 4-H staff has created
alternate versions of the Project Selection Guide. There are now
two additional choices for agents, leaders, and 4-H’ers wishing
to view the 2-page guide. One version is black and white but with
an outline of the border instead of the heavy, black border on
the original. The other version is in color. Please let the state
office know if you have additional questions or suggestions.

OPPORTUNITY TO NOMINATE OUTSTANDING 4-H YOUTH OR ADULT VOLUNTEER
LEADERS
Nominations are being accepted for the 2004 Hannah Neil Awards,
sponsored by World of Children. The awards honor “ordinary
people doing extraordinary work” for children.
Three awards will be made: the Cardinal Health Children’s
Care Award, which carries a cash prize of $100,000 and recognizes
an individual who has made a significant lifetime contribution
to the health and well-being of children; the Kellogg’s Child
Development Award, with a cash prize of $100,000, which honors
an individual who has improved children’s opportunities to
learn and grow; and the Founders’ Award, with a cash prize
of $15,000, which honors an individual who is 21 years old or younger
and has contributed at least three consecutive years of service
to helping children.
Nomination forms and additional information are available on the
organization’s Web site, www.worldofchildren.org/.
Nominations may be made by anyone familiar with the nominee’s
work, and self-nominations are accepted. Nominations for the 2005
awards will begin shortly.
If you know of any 4-H’ers or adult volunteers who may be
deserving, please feel free to nominate them.

WEB-BASED PROJECT ACTIVITY SHEETS FOR TENNESSEE 4-H
Project activity sheets are being developed by 4-H agents, specialists,
program assistants and volunteers. We have a process in place to
review the activity sheets and give credit to the authors. Lori
Jean Mantooth is editing the activity sheets along with Wanda Russell,
Publications Editor in the Communications Department. For now,
Lori Jean is publishing them to the Web site.
The first efforts are at the “beginning” level, geared
for 5th and 6th grades. The line & design and photography projects
are on the Web site today. Others to follow are cat; dog; rabbit;
nutrition, health & fitness; horse; computers & technology;
leadership & personal development; and engineering & safety
science. If you are interested in designing activity sheets for
4-H, please contact Lori Jean Mantooth or Alice Ann Moore.
The activity sheets can be accessed by clicking on the project
names on the 4-H projects Web page (www.utextension.utk.edu/4h/projects).
You also may access the sheets directly through the links below:
Line & Design: www.utextension.utk.edu/4h/projects/activities/LineDesign.pdf
Photography: www.utextension.utk.edu/4h/projects/activities/Photography.pdf
Each project will have a Web page; however, the pages are still
very much in the construction phase. They will include the activity
sheets, links for information service ideas and more.
We have developed a process for completing the activity sheets
so that they will be a Web based publication. The process can assist
those who need documentation for promotion dossiers.
Thanks to Kathy Finley and Samantha Barnard for taking the lead
in developing the activity sheets. I encourage you to contact us
if you have resources that may be utilized statewide.
