2006 EXPO ONLINE ENTRY PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE

What's new this year? Your comments and suggestions have been put into action in this updated Expo Online Entry system for 2006 Tennessee Junior Livestock entries. You will still be able to enter your Expo entries online as well as review, delete, edit, export, sort, search and print as in the past. However, adding animal entries is now much easier with the inclusion of direct links to animal show entry screens from the exhibitor listing. No more scrolling through long lists of social security numbers looking for your exhibitor. Now you only need to determine the correct exhibitor and click the appropriate show link to open the animal entry listing. The user login area has also seen an update this year. To ensure our exhibitor's data is secure and only UT Extension personnel are entering the system, all users will be verified against the University LDAP database. Additional information concerning your username and password is provided below.

All entries are required to be completely entered into the on-line system by 5:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, June 16. Some regions/areas may require an earlier deadline in order to process entries for the area show. You may already have this information or you will be receiving details very soon.

What about paper entry forms? Keep in mind it is still required for you to submit all Expo 'hard copy' entries, entry fees and appropriate registration forms and/or lease agreements to Dr. James B. Neel in the state Extension animal science office by June 15.

Area show entry fees and 'hard copy' entries should be submitted as follows: All Area 1 entries and entry fees are to be forwarded to Richard Powell. All Area 2 entries are to be forwarded to Kevin Ferguson and entry fees (including steer fees) to Jim Stewart. Area 3 beef entries are to be forwarded to Bill Adcock, sheep entries forwarded to Scott Chadwell and entry fee checks made payable to the Tennessee 4-H Foundation forwarded to Jim Stewart. All Area 4 entries should be submitted to Jenny Yeary and counties will be invoiced for entry fees after the Area 4 show.

What do you need to enter? Before entering exhibitor or animal information, verify that data on the entry form is complete and animals meet eligibility guidelines. Do not attempt to enter incomplete entries! All information fields are required and the entry program will not accept partial entries. You will be responsible for entering all registered and commercial heifer show entries for the 2006 Beef Expo from your county. Market steer entries will already be entered into the online entry program and will be available for viewing at a later date. You will also enter all entries for the 2006 Sheep Expo including market lambs, commercial ewes and breeding ewe show entries.

What about 'Area Only' entries? For entries that are area only, the yellow entry forms should be sent to your regional agriculture program leader. Please send the white copy to Knoxville clearly indicating on the entry form that it is an 'Area Only' entry. You will enter the area only animals via the computer the same as state entries, however, you will indicate the animal is an 'Area Only' entry. Remember once the decision is made to show in the area only, the animal cannot be shown at the State Expo.

How do I access the online entry program? You may access the on-line entry program from the Department of Animal Science home page (http://animalscience.ag.utk.edu/) by clicking on the '4-H Livestock Show Entry Procedure' link under the 4-H area page, News and Events or by the direct URL below. Be sure to open this site directly in an Internet Explorer window and not through Lotus Notes. An indepth user's guide as well as helpful hints for submitting entries into the program are provided on the site as a printer-friendly pdf. Please thoroughly read the instructions for your reference before entering the system. It is also suggested to print a copy of the user's guide to have on hand as you submit your on-line entries.

How do I login to the system? The entry system verifies login information against the University LDAP database. This will ensure that only UT Extension personnel will have access to the online entry system. In addition, this will allow the program to filter the database and only retrieve/display your county's entries. Your username for the program is your University-wide email address (NetID@tennessee.edu). For example, Jim Neel will log into the entry system by entering jneel@tennessee.edu. Your entry program password is the unique UT Personnel Number that has been assigned to you. If you do not know this number, you may use the ‘Forgot Password’ option. You will be prompted for your email address or username, which are the same for this program. Be sure to use your University email address (NetID@tennessee.edu) instead of the ‘@utk.edu’ version. Your password will then be emailed to you.

Thank you in advance for helping keep the entry process for the 2006 Tennessee Junior Livestock Exposition as error free as possible! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at etipton@tennessee.edu.

goCYBERCAMP: EXTENDING 4-H PROGRAMMING INTO CYBERSPACE

Just as summer camp and other 4-H programs provide educational, fun, recreational, and social opportunities for children - so does goCyberCamp! goCyberCamp is a Web-based 4-H "camp" that provides hands-on learning experiences through interactive games and activities that teach science and technology, plants and animals, ecology and natural resources, and arts and crafts. Along with providing youth with unique opportunities for discovery and exploration, goCyberCamp supports 4-H Extension agents and volunteers with curricular materials to help them further engage children through offline hands-on activities that extend online learning and fun.

goCyberCamp leads 4-H programming into the future where more and more youth are using the Internet. Given the privacy issues related to youth’s increased Internet usage, goCyberCamp ensures a "safe zone" since it excludes advertisements or commercial tie-ins and external links to other Web sites.

In addition to supporting safe Internet experiences for youth, goCyberCamp supports e-Extension initiatives that mark the wave of the future for the Land-Grant University system. Content on goCyberCamp is developed in reference to science-based information and learning resources provided by expertise of the Land-Grant University system.

goCyberCamp is available anywhere and anytime. Plus, it's available free of charge! Kids and their caregivers can camp all year round at goCyberCamp. Youth between the ages of 8-12 can play online games and activities and make new friends. Simply go to http://goCyberCamp for a fun learning experience.

For questions or concerns, please contact Jen Coleson at 612-626-8310 or cole0363@umn.edu.
