2007 STATE 4-H COUNCIL MEMBERS SELECTED AT ROUNDUP

Elections are always an exciting part of State 4-H Roundup. The 2007 State 4-H Council members were elected in Martin this week. New council members will represent their peers in an advisory role as members of the State 4-H Council for the coming year. Thanks to all agents who have encouraged these 4-H’ers and helped them develop the leadership skills to serve in this role. New council members include:

HALE MASTER 4-H FAMILY RECOGNIZED

The Fitzgerald Family (Frankie, Susan, Katie, Rob, Laura and Sarah) from Macon County was honored as a Hale Master 4-H Family award during Tuesday night awards program at State 4-H Roundup in Martin. The W.M. and Ruth Hale Tennessee Master 4-H Family recognition honors 4-H families who have shown consistent leadership ability and exceptional participation in all phases of 4-H work. STATE DAIRY JUDGING CONTEST TO BE HELD AUGUST 10

The 2006 State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest will be held on Thursday, August 10, at the Williamson County Fair in Franklin. Competition will be held for senior teams ONLY, with the winning team representing Tennessee in the national dairy judging contest in October.

Team members must be in the 9-12th grades as of January 1, 2006. Entry forms must be mailed to Jeff Mitchell at jmitchel@tennessee.edu by Tuesday, August 1, 2006. The entry form may be found at animalscience.ag.utk.edu/dairy/dairy_4-H_judging_contest.htm.

A policies and procedures manual has been developed for the Tennessee State 4-H Dairy Judging program. Please review the document carefully as it addresses several concerns and issues raised in the past. You may access the manual from the UT Dairy Extension site at animalscience.ag.utk.edu/dairy/pdf/4-H/TN4-HDairyJudgingManual2004.pdf.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

8:30 a.m. - On site registration
9:00 a.m. - Contest begins
11:30 a.m. - Lunch
12:00 noon - Contestants begin reasons
2:30 p.m. - Finish oral reasons
3:00 p.m. - Awards ceremony

There is no registration fee, and lunch will be provided for all contestants. Others may purchase lunch on the fairgrounds. Pre-registration is required so there can be an accurate lunch count.

STATE WINNER NAMED IN 4-H VOLUNTEER LEADER RECOGNITION PROGRAM

The state winner in the adult volunteer leader recognition program for 2006 is Linda Harris of Campbell County. The award includes a trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta and the Charlene Hamilton Powell memorial plaque sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kant. The runner-up for the award was Marissa Lemley of Robertson County.

TENNESSEE 4-H ROUNDUP AWARDS PROGRAM RESULTS

Several 4-H’ers were recognized at the Tennessee 4-H Roundup awards banquet, Tuesday night, July 18. Each Level I winner received the 4-H Horizon Award and is eligible for a $500 scholarship if they major in agriculture or family and consumer science at UTM or UTK. Each Level II winner received a silver bowl, the Lee Medallion and a trip to National 4-H Congress.

VOL STATE CEREMONY AT ROUNDUP

Thursday night saw 80 Tennessee 4-H’ers inducted as Vol State members during State 4-H Roundup. This impressive candlelight ceremony honors outstanding members with the highest level of recognition a Tennessee 4-H’er may receive, the Vol State Award.
