DICKSON COUNTY IS AWARDED $500 MINI-GRANT
Dickson County was the only recipient of a $500 mini-grant provided by the Engaging Youth, Serving Communities grant. In order to receive this grant Dickson County was required to conduct a Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute program. The PYLI program was conducted as a part of Leadership Dickson County. One of the main components of the PYLI curriculum is a service project conducted by the youth participants. The Dickson County youth produced a video for 8th graders on life in high school. We congratulate Dickson County on receiving this grant!

EXPLORING 4-H/SECRETARY’S RECORD WILL BE SHIPPED THIS MONTH
County shipments of Exploring 4-H (PB1653) and Secretary’s Record Book (F241) have been delayed due to equipment changes at the print shop. Publications and Services has already mailed out the supply that was on hand. The rest of the shipments will be made as they are received from the print shop. We anticipate these publications will be out to the counties by mid-September.

GOVERNOR’S OFFICE SEEKING INTERNS
Do you know bright, motivated college juniors and seniors who want to contribute to a team atmosphere and learn more about the political process? If so, please do not delay in sharing this amazing opportunity with them!
The Governor’s Office is currently seeking applications for our fall internship program. Governor’s Office interns have the opportunity to work in the heart of Tennessee politics. There are three opportunities throughout the course of the year for students to be considered for full-time internships in the Governor’s Office- fall semester (mid-August to December), spring semester (January to mid-May) and summer semester (mid-May to mid-August). Applications for our spring 2007 internship program are due November 1, 2006.
Interns have the opportunity to work in one of the fast paced departments in the Governor’s Office. This allows interns to focus their experience in a specific area of the political process. Internship opportunities are available in the following departments:
* Boards & Commissions
* Communications
* Constituent Services
* First Lady’s Office
* Governor’s Office/Deputy Governor’s Office
* Legislative
* Policy
* Scheduling |
We regret that funds are not available to provide stipends to Governor’s Office interns. Our staff is willing to assist students in receiving credit for their work in the Governor’s Office.
Past Governor’s Office interns have had backgrounds in political science, communications and public relations; however, we encourage any self-motivated individual from any academic major to apply.
For more information about the application process, please visit www.tennessee.gov/governor/Internship.do. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact me at 615-253-7754 or via email at patrick.hamilton@state.tn.us.

NEW ONLINE RESOURCE FROM PENN STATE UNIVERSITY
An online version of a searchable database of 4-H graduate studies (formerly published in Making the Best Better: 4-H Graduate Studies by Jan Scholl) is now available!!! The current database contains over 1700 studies, dating from 1911 to 2006, and can be found on the new AGNIC Youth Development Web site: apps.libraries.psu.edu/agnic/index.cfm created by Jan Scholl, Amy Paster and David Abler, Penn State University (copyright 2006).
The database is searchable by author, keyword, year of graduation, and institution. The Web site also provides access to historical information and links to other sites. Additional information for the site and questions about the site may be directed to Jan Scholl at jscholl@psu.edu.
AGNIC is coordinated by Melanie Gardner of the National Agricultural Library in connection with land grant universities.
