LAST CHANCE TO PROMOTE NATIONAL 4-H WEEK
National 4-H Week begins Sunday, October 1, 2006. Take advantage of the National 4-H Week promotion kit available at http://4HMediaResources.org during this last week. Showcasing the four H’s - Head, Heart, Hands and Health - the kit is a quick and easy tool for you to promote 4-H in your community.
The kit includes logos, print materials, ads, media relations materials, tip sheets, activity ideas and more. Many of the materials are available in a version that you can easily save and open in Microsoft Word, customize with your community and contact information and print on color printers. All files are .jpeg, Adobe .PDF or Microsoft Word. A link to help you download the Adobe Reader software is right on the site with the National 4-H Week Kit materials.

SUPER AND 4-H ENROLLMENT: PLANS AND PROGRESS TO DATE
Do we use Blue Ribbon this year?
Yes, we will continue to use Blue Ribbon until SUPER enrollment module is deployed and you have been instructed in using SUPER.
When can I roll-over Blue Ribbon to 2007?
Counties should not roll-over until they receive directions from Carmen Burgos.
When will SUPER Enrollment be deployed?
Deployment should take place sometime in 2007.
After SUPER Enrollment is deployed, what about our data in Blue Ribbon?
We will have a one-time upload available from Blue Ribbon to SUPER in 2007. This will allow name, address and other core data on youth members to be uploaded from Blue Ribbon to SUPER. This will be a great opportunity to clean-up Blue Ribbon’s current data (addresses, phone numbers, etc.) before we move into SUPER.
Why are we doing this?
We are doing this in response to Extension’s 2001 Strategic Plan to streamline reporting. A streamlined reporting system saves time and eliminates redundant reporting
What about 4-H state registration databases in Lotus Notes?
These will not be used when SUPER Enrollment and SUPER Training/Registration modules are launched.
Will volunteers have to be re-entered from Lotus Notes database?
Yes. SUPER will assign a unique number to each volunteer so that social security number, or some portion of the number, will no longer be used by UT Risk Management for volunteer reporting.
What is SUPER Enrollment Module going to do?
* Interact with training/registration module to register youth for county, multi-county,
regional and state courses/events.
* Capture enrollment information: grade, race/ethnicity, projects, clubs, etc.
* Complete ES-237 4-H Enrollment Report
* Capture adult and youth volunteers (replaces Lotus Notes database)
How will names and addresses be protected from hackers?
SUPER is not public. The servers that house SUPER are highly-protected. SUPER was not hacked in the recently publicized incident involving a server on the UT Agriculture Campus. As technology advances, additional protection will be explored such as Virtual Private Network.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Carmen Burgos.

WILSON COUNTY DAIRY TEAM RETURNS FROM HARRISBURG
The Wilson County 4-H dairy judging team attended the All-American Dairy Judging Contest in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The contest was held at the Farm-Show Complex on September 18. Team members Jeffrey Turner, Wenter Davis, Megan Johns and Brad Forrest began the contest began with linear evaluation, followed by placing classes and oral reasons. The team finished 14th overall. Wenter Davis placed third in the Guernsey division.
The team also got to tour some of the unique destinations in Southern Pennsylvania. On Tuesday the team visited Chocolate World in Hershey, Pennsylvania and then visited the battlegrounds in Gettysburg. On Wednesday, the team toured the Mason Dixon Farm which is one of the most innovative dairy farms in the United States. The farm milks over 2,300 cattle, uses robotic milking machines and makes its own electricity.
The trip was an incredible experience for the Wilson County 4-H’ers. Accompanying the team were volunteer coaches Diane Major and Summer Major along with 4-H Extension agent Johnny Barnes.
