2007 STATE 4-H THEME AND LOGO UNVEILED
The 2006-2007 State 4-H Council is pleased to announce the 2007 state 4-H theme -
"TENNESSEE 4-H: A TIMELESS TRADITION." This theme will be used during the 2007 year in various ways, including the theme for State 4-H Congress, Tennessee 4-H Roundup and All Star Conference and our statewide 4-H inservice. The theme is also the topic for the Congress essay contest.
Special thanks to the State 4-H Council for their work in preparing this theme and to Lori Belew, Extension Assistant, 4-H Youth Development, for creating the design.
There are two versions of this year's logo. One design features detailed 4-H emblems and is suited for 5x7 or larger publications. The second design has less detail (no emblems) and is appropriate for smaller publications. Color and black and white options are available in each.
You can download the logos from the following locations:

CUMBERLAND COUNTY LIVESTOCK TEAM COMPETES AT LOUISVILLE
The Cumberland County 4-H livestock judging team represented Tennessee at the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, November 13-15, at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. Team members Jake Beaty, Bob Cole, Ashley Green and Matthew McClanahan placed 16 in a field of 32 teams.
The contest consisted of 10 classes of beef, cattle, sheep and swine, with four sets of reasons and questions on two other classes. Jake Beaty was 23rd high individual and Bob Cole 25th high individual in the contest.
The team had a great time and an educational experience. They had the opportunity to judge some high quality livestock, visit livestock exhibits and attend trade shows. The team was joined by Extension agent and coach Gregg Upchurch and along with volunteer leader coach Keith Cole.

DELEGATES SELECT NATIONAL 4-H CONGRESS DESIGN TEAM NOMINEES
The Tennessee delegation had the opportunity to nominate three of its members to apply for the 2007 National 4-H Congress design team. The delegates kept a close eye on one another and on Sunday night voted for three of their number whom they felt had exhibited leadership skills to bring to this national planning group. The three finalists were announced at the Tennessee luncheon on Monday at the Ritz-Carlton. Meredith McBride (Dyer County), Juliana Robbins (Lawrence County) and Tyler Boyd (Cocke County) will be putting together their resumes and video tapes for the national selection committee. We are proud of them and wish them the best in their bid to be a part of the planning team for next year's Congress.

DON’T FORGET TO COLLECT YOUR SCHOLARSHIP!
Please remember 4-H’ers who have won 4-H educational scholarships are eligible to collect them as soon as they have completed a successful semester of post high school work and are enrolled for the next unit of school work. This would include college, university, trade school, etc. Successful completion means the member’s grade point average is at least 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale.
To receive the scholarship, please complete the scholarship payment form (F837) and submit it to the state 4-H office. The scholarship payment form may be found on the Web site at 4h.tennessee.edu/forms&materials/. The scholarship check will be written payable to the member and will be mailed to their Extension agent for presentation.
Level I scholarships won at Roundup are administered by the University of Tennessee. We supply the three colleges involved with a list of members who should be eligible to collect their scholarships. Payment is made during the registration process at the beginning of the second semester. In order to receive the Level I scholarship, a member must have successfully completed a semester of work at the UTK College of Health, Education and Human Science majoring in a human ecology field of study; the UTK College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources; or the UTM College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences majoring in agriculture and natural resources of family and consumer sciences.
A list of 4-H members who have been awarded state 4-H scholarships (with the exception of Level I scholarships), but at this point in time have not collected their scholarships may be found at 4h.tennessee.edu/ideas06/attach/scholarship_list07.pdf. Please check this list for accuracy. Let us know if the graduation date or any other information is incorrect.

HELP BREAK A WORLD RECORD!
Have you ever wanted to help break a world record? Well, here is your chance! The following paragraphs came from the Walden Media Web site at www.walden.com/web/teach/home.
Walden Media, Paramount Pictures, HarperCollins, Nickelodeon Movies, Kerner Entertainment and our partners are teaming up to "Break a World Reading Record With Charlotte’s Web." The record attempt is for MOST PEOPLE READING ALOUD SIMULTANEOUSLY IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS.
On Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at 12:00 noon (EST), you are invited to join students, educators, librarians and fans of Charlotte’s Web who will gather in schools, hospitals, libraries and community centers to read a passage from E. B. White’s classic tale of friendship, kindness, selfless giving and miracles. It is our hope that "Break a World Reading Record with Charlotte’s Web" will introduce this wonderful story to a new generation and reintroduce the story to fans who haven’t read it since childhood.
If you know of a 4-H group or groups that might want to get involved, www.charlotteswebbarr.com/program.php offers instructions on how.
The Charlotte's Web movie campaign is getting ready to kick-off across the county. Information is forthcoming from National 4-H Council about the Charlotte's Web movie tickets for sale online, with $1.00 going back to the state 4-H program from each ticket bought within that state.

NATIONAL 4-H CONGRESS DELEGATION RETURNS FROM ATLANTA
Tennessee was well represented by the 38 delegates who attended the 85th National
4-H Congress in Atlanta. A copy of our National 4-H Congress delegation booklet, Lead, Learn, Grow and the 2006 4-H Congressional Record: A Special Edition will be included in your December 18 county mail packet. Share these with your coworkers. They contain bios and pictures of each of the delegates along with highlights of the week at National 4-H Congress.
You are also invited to share in the delegates Congress experience through the Web site at 4h.tennessee.edu/natcong/. There you will find the Tennessee delegation group photo in addition to online versions of the publications in your mail packet.
Please invite these young people to share their Congress experiences with you and with your 4-H members. Any of them would be excellent speakers for achievement banquets, Honor Club meetings, volunteer leader meetings, club meetings, etc. The names and addresses are included in the publication.

SOMETHING COOL THAT XEROX IS DOING
If you go to www.letssaythanks.com, you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and send to a soldier currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them.
