FANTASTIC RESEARCH AND EVALUATION OPPORTUNITY COMING TO ATLANTA!
NAE4-HA will soon be announcing your opportunity to attend an exciting program evaluation pre-conference prior to the NAE4-HA Conference in Atlanta. Look for registration materials soon on the NAE4-HA conference Web site at georgia4h.org/nae4ha2007/index.htm.
Here is a sneak peek for Tennessee Extension 4-H agents:
| The pre-conference "Evaluation at the Local Level: Where to Start, What to Do!" will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This all day workshop will develop and advance the participants’ skills in select basics of evaluation related to the “doing” and the “write-up,” referenced to the logic model. The participants will explore fundamentals including defining purpose, appropriate methodology(ies), data gathering, and straightforward analysis/presentation of data related to evaluation goals and responses to different stakeholder groups. The workshop will emphasize a hands-on, cooperative learning approach. We will explore evaluation from a diversity of delivery modes considering evaluation for traditional and nontraditional programs. Participants will use existing “authentic” data (e.g., ES-237 information and data collected by county level Extension faculty) for practice and as models for various evaluation tasks. Each participant will receive a package of materials, articles, and samples. |
Questions may be directed to Joseph Donaldson at jldonaldson@tennessee.edu or Joy Jordan at jcj@ufl.edu.

FARM CREDIT SERVICES OFFERS NEW 4-H SCHOLARSHIPS
Farm Credit Service of Mid-America will offer two (2) $1,000 college scholarships to Tennessee 4-H members this year. Applicants must have been accepted as a freshman or be currently enrolled as a student in good standing at any college, university, technical or trade school in any field of study. Preference will be given to incoming freshman applicants.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of:
* Experiences and achievement in the applicant's main 4-H project - 40%
* 4-H leadership and citizenship experiences - 30%
* Scholarship - 20%
* Financial need - 10% |
Application should be made using F386: Tennessee 4-H Scholarship Application Form available from the 4-H Forms and Materials page at 4h.tennessee.edu/forms&materials/index.htm. The applications are due to the state 4-H office on May 1, 2007.
Since this scholarship is being announced late and was not included in the list of scholarship published last December, any 4-H member submitting an application this year will automatically be considered for these scholarships since there are no stipulations as to where the students attend school or what they will major in.

HANDS ON NETWORK LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE
The Hands On Network launched a really cool Web site last Friday. The address is www.BeHandsOn.org. BeHandsOn is a social network site where you can:
* connect with others who share your interest or experience in community service
* access video-based volunteer leader training
* download tools and templates to help you plan or lead a volunteer project
* upload your own tools and tips to share with others
* find and post volunteer projects
* track your volunteer service history, creating a volunteer service resume or "civic
imprint" |
It is hoped this site will become the "My Space" of volunteering. There are also lots of resources to help plan service projects, lead projects, etc. The plan is that anyone who creates a profile can upload and rate these types of resources... so the site will build and grow as more people join. To register, go to www.BeHandsOn.org.
