COFFEE COUNTY CAPTURES 2ND PLACE AT NATIONAL LIFESMARTS COMPETITION
The National LifeSmarts competition took place April 21-24 in Orlando, Florida. The actual competition began on Sunday, April 22. The team from Tennessee lost their first round of competition that day and was sent to the consolation bracket. Team Tennessee pulled themselves together and won four matches in a row on Monday, which placed them in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals took place on Tuesday, April 24. Teams in the semi-finals included Tennessee, New Mexico, New York, and Washington. Tennessee defeated Washington, and New Mexico defeated New York. The final match was Tennessee against New Mexico, and New Mexico won.
Tennessee was awarded second place, which is the best a team from Tennessee has ever done. A complete list of awards the team members and coach received is listed on the LifeSmarts Web page at www.lifesmarts.org.

YOUR INPUT NEEDED IN NATIONAL 4-H CURRICULUM SURVEY
A National 4-H Curriculum Summit is being convened this June to create an opportunity for representatives - from all parts of the 4-H Youth Development Program - to explore:
| * |
the goals and appropriate standards for 4-H materials and relevant agreements and practices to support them; |
| * |
the future curriculum priority-setting process; |
| * |
methods for ensuring quality and innovation; and |
| * |
professional development to strengthen our system capacity for quality curriculum development. |
The goal of this national meeting is to provide momentum for 4-H faculty and staff to foster improvements as we transition our national curriculum processes. These improvements include:
| * |
materials to attract and retain a population of youth more reflective of the diversity of our society; |
| * |
exploration of delivery methods and curricular strategies for the development of subject area competencies; and |
| * |
the incorporation of effective youth development models and principles to assist youth in the application of knowledge and the development of skills and knowledge important to succeed. |
Since participation at the Summit is limited, we want to gather feedback from others prior to the event. To that end, we are conducting a brief survey to gather your ideas, feedback and input. We need your responses no later than May 18, 2007. You can access the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=289403570500. Please take a few moments to give your opinion!
