TENNESSEE TO HOST SOUTHERN REGION TEEN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

We are very excited to once again offer you the opportunity to participate in the Southern Region Teen Leadership Conference, September 6-9, 2007, at the Clyde M. York 4-H Center in Crossville. The conference will focus on youth-adult partnerships by guiding participants to develop action plans, which they will carry out in their home counties or states. This does not compete with your existing teen leadership training programs and will add strength to your training in youth-adult partnerships.

This first-of-its-kind regional 4-H conference was created to develop leadership, citizenship, team-building, communication and other life skills in youth while embracing diversity, strengthening connections throughout the Southern region and motivating participants to become involved by creating and implementing action plans.

The four-day program will feature several youth-and adult-led workshops and "funshops," which teach useful team-building and leadership skills; as well as youth-adult workgroup meetings, which will guide groups to develop their action plans. The Tennessee 4-H Performing Arts Troupe will perform during the opening assembly, and a 9/11 memorial service will be held. Evening activities will consist of dances, movies, campfires, fun games and other activities.

The registration fee of $150 per participant includes the program and all meals and lodging while at the conference center. Youth-adult delegations are expected to enroll and arrive ready to develop their action plan. A suggested ratio of one adult per eight youth (1:8) is preferred with a maximum of one adult per 10 (1:10) youth allowed. Registration instructions and forms, as well as workshop RFPs are available for download online at www.srtlc.com. The deadline to register is Friday, August 10, 2007.

The deadline for workshop proposals has been extended to JULY 27, 2007!

We invite you to join us in our mission to empower and educate 4-H'ers to inspire a positive change across the Southern region through youth-adult partnerships. We guarantee youth and adults will leave with enthusiasm and new leadership skills that can be adapted to benefit communities and 4-H programs across the Southern region. Please share this widely with your volunteers and teens.

TWO NEW SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ROUNDUP

We are pleased to announce two new scholarships for Level II project winners at State 4-H Roundup this year. The Harris family from Campbell County (Benny, Linda, Ben, Sarah and Carrie) are providing scholarships of $500 each for the state winners in beef and poultry. This is in addition to the scholarship they are already sponsoring for the food science project.

Benny and Linda are long time volunteers in Campbell County and have coached state-winning meats judging teams. Linda was the 2006 recipient of the Adult Volunteer Leader Recognition. Ben and Carrie both attended National 4-H Congress as state winners in the garden project. Ben and his wife Sarah are parents of a new son Hudson.
