ROUNDUP SERVICE PROJECT ANNOUNCED: “MILES OF SMILES!

This year, the Tennessee 4-H All Stars have issued the “2007 Service Challenge.” This project encourages 4-H members to do 2,007 of something this year... collect 2,007 items, do 2,007 hours of service, do a project benefitting 2,007 people, etc.

The Roundup service project for this year is “Mile of Smiles!” All delegates to the 84th Tennessee 4-H Roundup and All Star Conference are encouraged to bring dental care supplies... toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, etc. to benefit area service agencies. Our goal is to collect enough items if laid end-to-end would span a mile (approximately 9,000 items)!

Remember, not only delegates can contribute to the project. This is a great way to get your Honor Club and other 4-H members involved in service learning and to learn one of the many opportunities available to them when they are eligible to attend Roundup.

SOUTHERN REGION VOLUNTEER FORUM WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Janet Fox from Louisiana has just sent us the descriptions for all the workshops that will be offered this year at the Southern Region Volunteer Forum. You can find a list of the workshops with descriptions at www.4hsrlf.org/07SRLF/WorkshopDescriptions07.pdf. This is a preliminary list and is subject to minor changes.

The deadline to register for the forum is August 17, 2007. Please share this information with all your volunteers. Don't stop with 4-H volunteers, share the information with anyone in your county that works with youth. Most workshop content is applicable to other youth organizations (church groups, Girl Scouts, Girls and Boys Clubs, etc.). Additional forum information and registration forms can be found on our Web site at 4htennessee.edu/volunteers/rockeagle/.

If you have not seen the 2006 forum slide show, go to www.4hsrlf.org/. Click on "past forums," then select "2006." Ralph Meacham from Tennessee takes the pictures and puts the slide show together with assistance from Bob Spalding from South Carolina. It's a great presentation and some of you are in it!

To avoid paying a late fee, send your registration form to the state 4-H office before August 17! Return form pages 3 and 4 with your payment. Checks can be made to the Tennessee 4-H Foundation. Send your registration form and payment to Carmen G. Burgos, 2621 Morgan Circle, Room 205, Knoxville, TN 37996-4510.
