4-H ENROLLMENT FORMS FOR 2007/08 ARE READY

Changes have been made to the 4-H enrollment forms. The new forms can be found on the 4-H Web site 4h.tennessee.edu/forms&materials/. 4-H enrollment data collection is now more in line with the SUPER enrollment module. There is a form for 4th graders and a form for 5-12th graders. If you printed a copy of the 5-12th grade document before today, please go back and print a new one. There was an error in the previous one. Poultry was omitted from the project list.

Not all SUPER fields will follow the exact order of the enrollment form, but it is as close as we could get it for this release. The SUPER enrollment module is being created based on our data management needs. As with any new software, there is always room for improvement. However, we just can’t do all the improvements at once without actually using the software and identifying what features could be and are feasible to improve. Most important, even considering any improvements you may find the program needs, your state reporting efforts will require less time to complete. Once the data is in the system, information needed for reporting can be retrieved and utilized with minimum effort and in less than half the time. However, it will require that data is entered in the system and managed in a timely manner. Everyone will need to pay attention to announced deadlines.

Joseph Donaldson has spent hundreds of hours in the design, development and testing of the system, as well as communicating with key people to create what we have to this point. County, regional and state staff have worked with him. After the enrollment is used for a year or two, we will be able to make further improvements.

Additional information will be sent out soon regarding enrollment reporting for 2007. If you start meeting clubs before we are able to complete the upload process, please do not enter 2007-2008 information in the SUPER enrollment module or in Blue Ribbon.

I greatly appreciate your patience. If you have a specific question or concern, do not hesitate to contact me.

PLANT SCIENCE GROUP COMPETES SERVICE AT YMCA

The plant science delegates at Academic Conference spent Thursday afternoon completing a service project at the YMCA of East Tennessee. This group of seven junior high 4-H volunteers spent four hours working on the gardens pulling weeds and picking up trash. SURF AND SAIL WITH CYFERNET’S JULY 2007 MISSION OF THE MONTH

Just in time for the sizzling summer heat, CYFERnet dives into another cool Mission. Learn about waves, wind power and boat building through exciting experiments, investigations, creative activities and some healthy competition.

Catch a Wave: In this lesson, youth take part in a series of experiments to see how waves are formed and why some waves are bigger than others.

Sailboat Investigation: Using a variety of everyday household materials, youth attempt to design and build a "sailboat" that will travel in a straight line for at least 75 centimeters on a smooth surface.

Cardboard Boat Race: Exercise your imagination and ingenuity by designing and building a kayak, paddle wheeler, pirate ship or other human-powered "boat" with just two basic items: cardboard and duct tape.

Visit www.cyfernet.org/4htech/missions.html for complete details.
