NEW LESSONS FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE LEARNERS

Charles Cox, State 4-H Leader/Director from Oklahoma, shared a Web site address for Ag in the Classroom lesson plans specifically for grades 7 and 8. The lessons teach basic skills in the core subjects using current agricultural topics for the background. Although the lesson plans were written for Oklahoma, they are pretty generic. The lesson plans were developed by Pat Thompson and Judy Ferrell along with a committee of classroom teachers and subject matter specialists in ag and natural resources.

The lessons are aligned with the Oklahoma teaching standards, Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS). These standards are similar to those in many states. I read the lesson plans, I think they are adaptable to Tennessee. The lesson plans may also address our programming in science, engineering technology and math.

After reviewing the lesson plans, we agree that they could be useful to Extension agents in Tennessee. Charles has been most generous in offering them to other states. The lesson plans can be found at agweb.okstate.edu/fourh/aitc/lessons/upper/index.html.
