THE LEADERSHIP SERIES

Over the past several months, I have been compiling, writing, modifying, etc. a number of leadership modules. These resources are a collection of materials that have been used by others in past programs or developed by me for class or other work-related projects. They have been used with both youth and adult audiences to teach the basics of leadership.

Throughout the next few weeks, I want to share these with you for use in your 4-H youth development programs. Each of these activities highlight a different aspect of leadership. They are simple activities that require very few… if any… materials. They are designed in a step-by-step format that provides a list of materials needed, detailed instruction, and background/objective information. In many cases, there is an evaluation and/or follow-up included.

The first activity in The Leadership Series is entitled Leading with Legos and can be found at 4h.tennessee.edu/ideas08/attach/Leading_with_Legos.pdf. The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate that there is not just one aspect of leadership that is more important than another. As leaders, we each have different areas of strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes we need to adjust our leadership preferences and styles depending on a particular situation.

I hope you enjoy the activity and find it useful. Watch for another leadership activity to be included in next week's edition of Ideas. If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions, please contact me at lbelew@utk.edu.
