TENNESSEE REPRESENTED AT NATIONAL 4-H SHOOTING SPORTS INVITATIONAL
The Shelby County Air Rifle team represented Tennessee very well at the National 4-H Invitational, held on June 24-28, 2009, in Grand Island, Nebraska. Members of the team are Jamie Arnett, Ethan Blackstone and Kaitlin McDonald.
In addition to competing in Nebraska, Jamie, Ethan and Kaitlin had an experience that they will always remember. Their experience included a tour the Hornady Manufacturing facility. They now produce two million bullets a day and still cannot keep up with demand.
One night featured a barbecue dinner and a dance. Another evening was spent at a water park. The event ended with an awards breakfast. Overnight stays were in Kansas City and St. Louis. Here are some of the comments:
| “I was impressed with the size of the competition. To walk info the Heartland Events Center and see 34 firing points set up all in a row for air rifle was very inspiring. I was also impressed with the range safety officers running the match in terms of knowledge, communications, and yet, approachability. I liked the new scoring systems that scanned the targets and used a computer program to score them. Advice for the competitors going next year - practice, practice, practice.” |
Special thanks go to Shelby County 4-H volunteer leaders David Waldrip and Robbie Arnett. For photos, visit 4h.tennessee.edu/shootingsports/Invitational%20Gallery/index.htm.
