4-H PROUD PARTNER RECOGNITION PROGRAM SET FOR NATIONAL 4-H WEEK
The Tennessee 4-H Foundation marketing committee has developed an activity by which county Extension 4-H programs may recognize local businesses during National 4-H Week, October 4-10. The agent resource page for the program is online at 4hfoundation.tennessee.edu/ProudPartner/ or go to the Foundation main page and click on “Resources for Agents.”
Businesses who have donated $100 or more to the county 4-H program can be recognized by being invited to display the “Proud Partner” logo as a decal on their business window, as well as posting the logo to their business Web site. Decal requests and Web site posting requests may be done online at the above address. Please complete these by September 30. A fill-in-the-blank news release is also downloadable from the site.
Let’s recognize those businesses that are so good to support 4-H!

ENTRIES DUE FOR STATE FALL JUDGING EVENTS
State Fall Judging Day will be Saturday, October 17 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Registration will be at 12:45 p.m. in the lobby of the Hollingsworth (Plant Science) Auditorium with the competition starting at 2:00 p.m. (Please note exception: Consumer decision making and forestry judging will start at 1:15 p.m.) An awards banquet will be held at 6:00 p.m.
Competition will be for senior teams in consumer decision-making, dairy products judging, forestry judging, outdoor meat cookery, plant and seed identification and poultry judging. Junior high competition will not be offered on the state level.
The dairy products, plant and seed identification and poultry judging contests are non-qualifying events. Team members should be in the 9th-12th grades on January 1, 2009 in order to be eligible. There is no limit as to the number of teams that may participate from a county.
Participants in the consumer decision-making, forestry judging and outdoor meat cookery contests will be determined by regional events. The top four (4) forestry teams per region and the top three (3) outdoor meat cookery teams (plus any of the four specie winners if they were not a member of a regional-qualifying team) will advance to state competition.
In order to prepare for the judging day, we need to know how many are coming. There is a preregistration requirement for all teams. We must receive a COMPLETED Entry and Score Form (F615) for each team and/or individual participating. Please send this information to Steve Sutton, State 4-H Office, 2621 Morgan Circle, Room 205, Knoxville, TN 37996-4510 by October 5.
Your completed forms will be your reservation for the awards banquet on October 17. Cost for the meal is $12.00 per person. This includes contestants, coaches, parents and other guests. You may pay at the registration table as you arrive. Counties will need to be responsible for any meals not cancelled by October 9. Guest reservations should come in with your team’s entry form. Extension staff meals will be taken care of internally.

HOLIDAY GIFT WRAP SALES PROGRAM UNVEILED
Pegasus Paper Products and the Tennessee 4-H Foundation are collaborating to offer county 4-H programs a fundraising opportunity. Pegasus is offering premium gift wrap products from designer Nancy Yonko to county 4-H programs at cost. Neither Pegasus nor the Foundation are making money on this program, but are interested only in helping counties with their funding needs. The resource page for agents is located at 4hfoundation.tennessee.edu/Pegasus/. The sale is a pre-order, pre-paid program with counties keeping half of the retail price of the products.
Pegasus Paper Products is a Tennessee company that supports the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching College. Pegasus president Jeff Ray and product designer Nancy Yonko are horse enthusiasts who live in Rutherford County. UT College of Veterinary Medicine staff recently helped Jeff save a horse named "Angel" using the hyperbaric chamber at UT.
If your county needs a fundraiser, this one is rolling out just in time for the holidays.
