4-H PROJECT MEDALS ARE AVAILABLE
We still have some project award medals available for county recognition programs. We have a supply of medals for horse and clothing and textiles projects. These medals may be used in any manner you feel appropriate for your county program. Suggested uses include county project achievement winners, record books, demonstrations, exhibits, shows, etc. These medals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Just send a request by email to ssutton2@utk.edu with the number of medals you need.

ALABAMA HOSTS SOUTHERN REGION 4-H VOLUNTEER FORUM
The Southern Region 4-H Volunteer Forum held at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center was great this year! There was a good variety of workshops; the entertainment was really good; and the weather was perfect. Tennessee was well represented at the tailgate. We gave out Moon Pies, RC Colas, Sundrop, GooGoo's, Mrs. Sullivan pies (pecan, chess and chocolate) and other treats made in Tennessee. Jeannie Pell from Bradley County was our flag bearer for the parade of flags. Kane Reeves from Madison County did a great job as our volunteer coordinator-in-training.

Next year Georgia volunteers and staff will be hosting the forum. Mark your calendars for September 30-October 3, 2010.

STATE FALL JUDGING DAY IS OCTOBER 17
Fall judging day is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, on the University of Tennessee, Agriculture Campus, Knoxville. Registration will be at 12:45 p.m. in the lobby of the Hollingsworth Plant Science Auditorium with competition at beginning at 2:00 p.m. for all contests except consumer decision making and forestry (which will begin at 1:15 p.m.). The event will conclude with an awards banquet at 6:00 p.m.
Consumer Decision Making Judging - Claiborne, Crockett, Hancock, Polk, Putnam, Robertson, Stewart, Sullivan, Sumner and Warren counties
Forestry Judging - Cannon, Carter, Coffee, Decatur, Hickman, Putnam, Sequatchie and Shelby counties
Outdoor Meat Cookery (Teams) - Clay, Cheatham, Franklin, Hancock, Henry, Houston, Madison, Rhea and Unicoi counties
Outdoor Meat Cookery (Individuals) - Amber Futrell, Crockett County (Pork); Andrew Mills, Dickson County (Poultry); and Brandon Hunt, Sumner County (Poultry) |
Counties pre-registering for the open state competition include:
Dairy Products Judging - Hancock (2) and Robertson counties
Plant and Seed Identification Judging - Carter (2) and Henry counties
Poultry Judging - Bedford, Claiborne, Cocke, DeKalb, Knox, Overton (2) and Wilson (2) counties |
Pre-registration is required for those participating in the open competition. If you have questions about the event, please contact the state 4-H office or appropriate subject matter specialist.

STATE LAND JUDGING CONTEST NOVEMBER 9 IN JACKSON
The state land judging contest will be held in Jackson on Monday, November 9. Registration will be at 7:30 a.m. at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center with the contest starting at 8:30 a.m. The awards luncheon is set for 12:00 noon at the research and education center.
Those teams participating include Cannon County, Carroll County, Carter County, Grainger County, Hawkins County, Henry County, Jefferson County, McNairy County (2), Rutherford County and Wilson County (2). The event is sponsored by the Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Company.
