Elizabeth Goggans of Hamilton County is Tennessee’s state winner in the Communications project. She is the daughter of Stuart and Tamie Goggans of Harrison. Elizabeth has been a county public speaking winner for seven years, a regional finalist for five years, state finalist in both 2005 and 2006. She has spoken to audiences in seven different countries and throughout Tennessee. Elizabeth has served on Tennessee State 4-H Council as both a junior and senior representative, on Eastern Region 4-H All Star Council as both chief and scout and as president of her 4-H Honor Club for three years. This Vol State recipient enjoys teaching sign language and interpreting for the deaf. She was recognized with a citation for being a “Good Example of Hamilton County’s Youth.” Elizabeth future plans include studying communications, continuing to teach sign language and helping lead mission trips. |

Nick Gonyea of Williamson County received a silver bowl as a state winner in the Nutrition, Health and Fitness project. Nick is a college freshman and the son of Duane and Ann Gonyea of Thompson Station. As part of his project activities, he organized two nutrition, health and fitness project groups. He led these elementary-aged youth in activities that taught them proper nutrition and exercise. He has taught his family how to eat healthy and enjoys researching the nutritional value of foods before his family consumes them. Nick was a member of the Tennessee 4-H Performing Arts Troupe and teaches mime to local youth groups. He has participated in many 4-H competitions and conferences including Clover Bowl, History Bowl, public speaking contests, State 4-H Congress and regional 4-H All Star conferences. Nick is currently attending Carson Newman College in communication studies. |

Thomas Greenlee of Grainger County is the state winner in Agricultural Leadership. He is a senior at Rutledge High School and the son of Tommy and Phyllis Greenlee of Rutledge. Thomas has been a Level I state winner in the citizenship, sheep and poultry projects. He has shown registered Suffolk sheep since sixth grade, earning many champion awards at fairs and shows across the state. Thomas serves as a senior representative on the State 4-H Council. He is president of his county Sigma Lambda Chi and 4-H Honor Club. Other leadership roles include camp assistant at State 4-H Wildlife Conference, teen leader at junior 4-H camp and county June Dairy Month chairman. Thomas is president of his FFA chapter, has been a member of Youth Leadership Grainger and served as head usher at his church. He plans to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and study to become a veterinarian. |

Kyle Hensley of Loudon County is representing Tennessee as a state winner in the Food Science project. A senior at Lenoir City High School, Kyle is the son of Greg and Debbie Hensley of Kingston. As part of his project activities, he toured food manufacturers and grocery retailers to learn about food regulations. He attended the 2006 National 4-H Meats Judging Contest in Kansas City as a member of the champion Tennessee team. He has also been a finalist in the State Outdoor Meat Cookery Contest. Kyle is currently serving on State 4-H Council as state 4-H All Star chief. He credits his work in the sheep project as having taught him hard work, dedication and discipline. Kyle plans to attend the University of Tennessee and study sports journalism. |

Jessie Hudspeth of Cheatham County is attending National 4-H Congress for his work in the Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries project. Jessie is a graduate of Sycamore High School and is currently attending the University of Tennessee at Martin majoring in wildlife biology. He is the son of Mary Beth Hudspeth of Chapmansboro. Jessie is an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He has assisted both the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the National Wild Turkey Federation with youth hunts and outdoor education programs. Jessie has attended Target S.M.A.R.T. camp since the fourth grade and served as a conference assistant during high school. Jessie also served as captain of his county's shotgun team. Jessie is and Honor Club member, All Star and Vol State recipient. He has served in leadership roles both locally and on the regional level. In addition to his work in the forestry, wildlife and fisheries project, Jessie was a member of the national-winning consumer decision making team and has participated in exchange trips. 4-H is a family tradition for Jessie and he sums it up best when he says, "I wouldn't be me without 4-H." |

Amanda Hunley of Madison County is attending National 4-H Congress as a state winner in the Consumer Education/Economics project. Amanda is a senior at Madison Academic High School and the daughter of Jeff and Frances Hunley of Humboldt. Amanda used the skills she learned in her project as she worked in the 4-H Chicken Shack at the West Tennessee State Fair, a major fund raiser for her county 4-H program. She was a delegate to Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington, D.C. this summer. She credits her 4-H agents as being good role models in helping her learn and develop leadership skills. Amanda has been active in gathering supplies for the local humane society and food for local shelters. She plans to attend Union University and major in communications as she prepares for a career in journalism. |
