Brittany Marsh

Brittany Marsh of Madison County is representing Tennessee as a state winner in the Companion Animal project. Brittany is a senior at Southside High School and the daughter of John and Lola Marsh of Medon. This Vol State recipient attributes her leadership and communication skills to her 4-H involvement. Brittany has helped to train seven dogs, does yard work for the elderly, gathers food for a local shelter and works in the Madison County 4-H Chicken Shack at the fair. She served as secretary for her local 4-H club for two years and was a delegate to 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington, D.C. Brittany has also earned the silver award in Girl Scouts. She intends to study early education at the University of Tennessee at Martin.


Hannah Mills

Hannah Mills of Dickson County is the state winner in the Poultry project. This college freshman is the daughter of John and Sarah Adams of Dickson. Hannah enjoys entering her pullets in the Dickson County Fair. She has been a member of the poultry judging team and taught record keeping classes to younger 4-H members. In 2006, she won a trip to the National Forestry Judging Invitational as a member of Tennessee’s state-winning forestry judging team. Hannah has served as president and vice president of the Radical Clovers 4-H Club, president and secretary of the Dickson County 4-H Honor Club, council messenger for the Western Region All Star Council and a teen leader at junior 4-H camp. She volunteers at the Dickson County Humane Society and has been the county June Dairy Month chairman. Hannah is a student in business management at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She is working toward owning her own event planning business.


Jessica Moncier

Jessica Moncier is attending National 4-H Congress on the merits of her Personal Development project. She is the daughter of Nicky Moncier and Denise Smith of Alamo. Jessica taught fourth and fifth graders the importance of being a good leader and the traits a good leader possesses. She won the 2006 Mid South Fair Career Pursuit and received the Gilbert N. Rhodes 4-H Scholarship. Jessica is an active 4-H All Star and has served as messenger on the Western Region All Star Council. She has been vice president of the county 4-H Honor Club and served as a teen leader at junior 4-H camp for two years. She created the idea of “Struck by Luck” in her county, a series of 4-H service projects. Jessica credits 4-H All Stars with giving her the chance to put her leadership skills to use. She says, “All Star involvement has given me the chance to plan, implement and evaluate projects and activities in my region.” Jessica is majoring in agriculture at the University of Tennessee at Martin and plans to become a 4-H agent with UT Extension.


Grant Monroe

Grant Monroe of Decatur County is Tennessee’s state winner in the Horse project. He is a senior at Perry County High School and the son of Greg and Nina Monroe of Linden. Grant has been involved with the Decatur County 4-H horse project for the past eight years. He has participated in Hippology, Horse Bowl, horse judging and horse shows. He has had five district championships, four state championships and two futurity championships. He has used the skills he has gained to organize clinics in showmanship and grooming for younger members in the horse project. Grant was a delegate to the National Institute on Cooperative Education Youth Conference in Pennsylvania and American Legion Boys’ State. He was the 2005 Level I state winner in the horse project and a two-time 4-H citizenship finalist at State 4-H Congress. He is recognized as a leader in his community having served as vice president of a local peer education group, class president and FFA president. Grant plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin in pre-pharmacy.


Carson Moore Carson Moore of McNairy County won a silver bowl as the state winner in the Plant Science project. This home-schooled senior is son of Roger and Rose Moore of Bethel Springs. Carson was a Level I state winner in the plant science and engineering/safety science projects. He was a member of the county wildlife and plant and seed identification judging teams. His wildlife judging team placed fifth in the 2005 National 4-H Wildlife Invitational in Arkansas. Carson is president of his local 4-H club and coach for the McNairy County wildlife judging team. This Eagle Scout is also an assistant scout master for Boy Scouts of America Troup 32.

Catherine Mote Catherine Mote of Rutherford County is Tennessee’s state winner in the Goat project. This Riverdale High School senior is the daughter of Mitchell and Kathilu Mote of Rockdale. Catherine’s project has grown from raising and showing one meat goat to a flock of 20. She also enjoys horse judging, livestock judging and leadership opportunities with younger members. Catherine says, “Working with children in 4-H has taught me patience… how not to sweat the small stuff.” She has been a teen leader at junior 4-H camp for four years, a conference assistant at junior high 4-H camp and a teen leader at county day campss. Catherine has served as president of the Horse and Pony Club, Middle Region FFA secretary and chapter FFA president. She earned the silver award in Senior Girl Scouts. Catherine plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin majoring in animal science with a minor in education. She wants to become an Extension agent or a vocational agriculture teacher.

Julie Ozburn Julie Ozburn of Williamson County is attending National 4-H Congress as Tennessee’s state winner in the Dairy project. She is a senior at Page High School and the daughter of Jim and JoAnn Ozburn of Nolensville. Julie has shown her Jersey cattle on the county, district, state and national levels. She is the Tennessee Jersey Queen and will be competing nationally this fall at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. She is attending the National 4-H Dairy Conference in Madison, Wisconsin in October as one of two Tennessee delegates. Julie is vice president of the Tennessee Jersey Cattle Club and a junior member of American Jersey Cattle Club. She is president of her FFA chapter and coached the FFA dairy judging team. Julie has hosted dairy judging workshops on her farm, had radio spots as June Dairy Month chairperson and visited preschools to share the importance of dairy products. Julie plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin.
