McNairy County 4-H All Stars

A Year of Service

The McNairy County 4-H All Stars, along with the 4-H Honor Club, conducted a series of 7 service learning projects this year.

December: Worked wtih six 4th grade classrooms crafted hundreds of ornaments for a "4-H Tree" at a local convalescent home
January: Cooked and delivered hot meals for 24 elderly residents in the county
February: Read stories and passed out packages of books and healthy snacks to 65 Head Start students
March: Conducted a community Easter egg hunt
April: Held "Clover Bash" as a Friday night social for 6th grade 4-H'ers
July: Held car wash and bake sale to benefit Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse
August: Assembled school supplies for each kindergarten class in the county

The All Stars reflected on their service with journals, group discussions, and photos. The learning objectives were to learn responsibility, teamwork, planning and implementation of projects, the importance of giving to the community, and the personal benefits one receives from such acts. The 4-H'ers felt the projects brought their group closer together as they worked on the various tasks, and it also helped them grow closer to the community.
