The
final step in your service learning project is celebration
and recognition. It's more than just having fun, though.
It's also a chance to share what you've learned, to decide
how to stay involved in service, and to re-energize for
another service learning project.
When
you plan your celebration and recognition activities, try
to include others who were involved--leaders, families,
community members, other agencies, organizational leaders,
and other supporters. Most importantly, don't forget the
people you served. Whether it's patients at a nursing home,
children at a day care, or the director of the shelter,
include them in your activities.
Celebration
and recognition can take lots of forms. One idea is to develop
a presentation that you can give to others to tell about
your service experience. You may also choose to have a bowling
party, make T-shirts, have a picture of your service project
put in the local paper, or anything else that fits your
time, money, and interests.
If
you have a suggestion, an idea, or something you've tried,
e-mail it
and we'll post it here for other 4-H groups to see. Send
your pictures too!

Teens Accepting Responsibility |

High 4-H'ers in Loudon County formed the 4-H STARs program
to teach younger 4-H'ers and encourage them to stay
active in 4-H as they got older. Each month, the STARs
led a local 4-H club meeting and taught a lesson about
nutrition. The teens learned many things, including
communication, responsibility, commitment, leadership,
and much more! At the end of the program, they held
a "reflection celebration" party. |

grade 4-H'ers at Jo Byrns School in Robertson County
(Central District) collected clothes to donate in their
community. To celebrate their service, they had a party
for everyone who participated in the project. |
