to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, relative to
postsecondary financial assistance from net lottery
proceeds. |
BE IT ENACTED BY THE 2008 STATE 4-H CONGRESS:
Section 1:
To continue to receive a Tennessee HOPE Scholarship, the Academic requirement
will be reduced from a 3.0 grade point average to a 2.75 grade point average.
Section 2:
At the end of any semester in which a student’s eligibility is reviewed, the student
shall have achieved a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 to continue to receive the
Tennessee HOPE scholarship.
Section
3: Student eligibility is reviewed after students attempt twenty-four (24), forty-eight
(48), seventy-two (72), ninety-six (96), and one hundred twenty (120) semester hours.
Section 4: A student receiving a Tennessee HOPE Scholarship, who ceases to be academically
eligible for the scholarship because of failure to achieve a cumulative grade point of at least 2.75
at the end of a semester in which student eligibility is reviewed, may regain the HOPE
scholarship. To regain the HOPE scholarship, student must continue to meet all applicable
requirements for the scholarship, attend an eligible postsecondary institution without the HOPE
scholarship, and achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 at the end of any
semester in which eligibility would have been reviewed had the student not lost the scholarship
and reapply for the scholarship.
Section 5: A student, who regains the scholarship and then loses the scholarship a second time
by failing to achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 at the end of a subsequent
review, may not regain the scholarship.
Section 6: This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, and shall apply to any student seeking
a Tennessee HOPE scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.
