Public Speaking Contest
Extemporaneous Procedures

1.  The state 4-H staff will select topics to be used for the event.
2. 4-H'ers participating in the state event will draw numbers to determine the order in which they will speak.
3. Extemporaneous speeches will be given with only the judges and person coordinating the public speaking activity present.
4. 4-H'ers will draw a topic from the selected topics. One minute will be allowed for the 4-H'er to make preparation for the speech. Note cards will be provided to each participant to use in preparation for the speech.
5. Speeches should not exceed a time limit of two minutes. Each participant will be given a signal when 1½ minutes and two minutes of the time have elapsed. Judges will disregard any information given by the contestant after the two minute signal has been given.
