Buford Ellington 4-H Camp

Every year thousands of children attend camp at one of Tennessee's four 4-H centers.  Buford Ellington in Milan, TN,  is the camp for the Western District.  Counties that camp at Buford Ellington include: Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton, and Weakley.

What can your child expect from camp besides making new friends and a whole lot of fun?

Swimming:  The pool is the most popular place in camp.  A large in-ground swimming pool with diving board is watched over by 3 certified lifeguards.  Nothing beats the summer heat better than a dip in the pool.   What if your child doesn't swim? That's okay, our lifeguards teach beginning swimming.

Wildlife:  A visit to our wildlife cabin can teach your child all about the local flora and fauna.  Get a close look at the local wildlife, like snakes, turtles, and other reptiles or go on a creek stomp in the woods to learn about the local plant life.

Crafts:  Marvel at the treasures your child will bring home when they show you the cool t-shirt that they airbrushed or tye dyed or the necklace or bracelet they made in the beads and bottles shop.  Maybe even picture frames or key rings from the leather shop.  Any craft chosen will make your child proud of what they made.

Recreation:  Buford Ellington has recreational activities that all children can participate in.  Maybe they would like to see how true their aim is with archery or the rifle range.  Maybe  they like ball sports, like basketball, volleyball, tennis, tag football or the all time favorite of Ga Ga.  We also offer ping pong and putt putt golf.

The lake:  A trip around the lake in a canoe or paddle boat is great fun during the summer months and the lake is also the setting for early morning cookouts.  Learn how easy it is to prepare eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and even biscuits over a campfire.

Airslide:  Campers and adults alike enjoy climbing to the top of our 22 foot high inflatable and taking that long slide down!

Don't forget about the snack shack where you can get a variety of snacks and drinks, including ice cream.

These are just a few activities our campers experience while they are here. There is always the talent show with staff and campers, sometimes a dance or carnival.  Not enough?  There's more!  Campers also discover how to get along with others, become part of a team, and learn responsibility.  This week long camp will leave your child happy with the new friends they have made and memories that will last for a life time.
