Bread Baking Learning Activity
Extension’s bread baking learning activity is an opportunity for youth to learn about bread making and food preparation skills, and the nutritional value of breads. Every county is invited to participate. Tennessee Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H are grateful for the support of Martha White® and White Lily® who make this activity possible.
So that everyone has an opportunity to participate and awards are distributed fairly, please review the following guidelines.

"Mix It Up with Martha White"
Martha White invites all youth who want to learn to bake to "Mix It Up with Martha White." All you need to do is fill our a request for materials and either mail or email the form to Linda Carman at Martha White. Materials will include a certificate for a Martha White baking mix and a recipe leaflet, one certificate and recipe leaflet for each participant. Directions are easy and may require as little as a single ingredient. This is a good opportunity to introduce children to baking and teach the fundamentals of measuring and stirring. Baking can be done at home, as an activity at camp or any other type of baking project.
* Please note that all coupons and literature are subject to availability.

Monetary Awards and Certificates
Monetary awards are determined by grade level, which are divided into the following categories:
- Junior is 4th – 6th grade
- Junior High is 7th – 8th grade
- Senior High is 9th – 12th grade
A monetary award will be given in each grade category. If you do not have a winner in a grade category, you can choose to have two winners in another category. To make the awards equitable for all counties, we limit a county to three awards. You may choose to use other funding sources for additional awards.
Beginning in 2005, all participants in the bread baking activity are eligible for a certificate of accomplishment so that they may have a record of the skills they learned. This certificate may be downloaded and printed in local offices, just fill in the name and county information. Download the certificate of accomplishment. HERE.
Any individual that receives a monetary award will receive a certificate of excellence from the state FCS office. Request for monetary awards and certificates of excellence should be made to Janie Burney immediately after the end of your county contest. Download form for monetary award. HERE.
If you have any questions, please contact Janie Burney, jburney@utk.edu.
