Biological Control

Genetically modified soybeans that are resistant to insects are not available at this time.  However, there a many naturally occurring insects and diseases that provide biological control of insect pests in soybean, cotton, corn and other crops.  Some of the more common beneficial arthropods found in soybean include big-eyed bugs, assassin bugs, insidious flower bugs, damsel bugs, ants, ground beetles, spiders, and stink bug egg parasitoids and Trichopoda pennipes (on stink bugs).  To prevent disruption of this control, it is recommended that producers use broad spectrum insecticides only when pest populations exceed economic thresholds.
