Forest Landowner Education
| The
Forest Landowner Priority will focus on educational programs and resource
demonstrations for the 400,000 non-industrial private forest landowners
in Tennessee who own over 82 percent or 10.5 million forested acres.
The objective is for landowners to improve the profitability of forest
ownership, improve management of the forest resource, and understand
the ecology of forest development and succession. Mechanisms
to achieve these objectives include a curriculum-based program of
forest and wildlife short courses for enhanced education of landowners,
formation of county forest landowner associations and education committees,
and demonstration of forest practices on state forests, experiment
stations and forest industry lands. Cooperative partners in this initiative
include the Tennessee Forestry Association,
various forest industries, Tennessee
Department of Agriculture's Forestry Division, and Tennessee
Wildlife Resources Agency. |
