From time to time, potential donors to 4-H programs may ask for documentation of the 4-H program having 501 (c)(3) charitable status as administered by the Internal Revenue Service. Because all Tennessee 4-H programs receive gifts through the University of Tennessee, the UT charitable status IRS letter should be used as proof of charitable status. The University is not a 501 (c) (3), however has the equivalent educational rating from the IRS and is recognized by the federal government as a charitable organization.
