A few years ago, The State of Tennessee passed The Tennessee Charitable Solicitations Act, which requires charitable organizations chartered or operating within the State to register with the State of Tennessee's Division of Charitable Solicitations. The Tennessee 4-H Foundation is registered and complies with the requirements of the Division for reporting annual fundraising activity.

UT Extension is not required to register with the Division of Charitable Solicitations. This includes all county, district and state offices of UT Extension.

Occasionally, Extension staff may be asked to provide documentation of exemption from registering with the Division of Charitable Solicitations. A letter from Barbara D. Toms, Director, Charitable Solicitations to Dr. D. Ray Humberd, associate dean emeritus, may be used as documentation of exempt status. Click on "Exemption" below to view and/or print the letter.
